St. Paul Lutheran Church in Taylor, TX actively provides outreach and resources to all people and families by proclaiming , teaching and living the good news of God's love in Jesus Christ.
The church featured in the background served as the main sanctuary until 1957 and was located on the corner of W. 6th Street and Fowzer Street (the current location of the church parking lot).
St. Paul Lutheran Church has a rich history dating back to 1890. Begun as tiny mission effort that failed at first, it was resurrected in October 1913.
Originally, only Sunday School was offered for the Lutheran children of the town. Once Sunday School started, there followed the desire for regular church services which began with neighboring pastors conducting services twice each month hosted in the Odd Fellows' Hall.
The first church building was dedicated on July 1, 1917.
In the early years, it was custom to have worship services in German and English. The custom was discontinued in the 1930's; however, the Ladies' Aid Society continued to conduct meeting in German during more than 50 years of the organizations life.
By the church's 25th Anniversary in 1939, the congregation had ample facilities for worship and Sunday School, owned 4 1/2 city lots (without indebtedness) and numbered 600 members, with 484 confirmed members.
On May 26, 1957, the present church and one educational wing were dedicated to the Glory of God. At that time the congregation numbered 1,100 members with 900 communicant members.
In 1965, as part of the 50th Anniversary, faceted glass windows portraying the life of Christ were installed in the church.
In 1971, the current educational building was enlarged and in 1982 the current location of the St. Paul House (used for offices) was purchased.
Today, St. Paul Lutheran Church continues to serve the Taylor Community with weekly worship services.
Sunday services have been broadcast over local radio stations since August 1972 and that tradition continues to this day as our way of sharing and spreading the Word of God. Currently we broadcast on KRXT Radio 98.5 FM from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.
If you are looking for a spiritual home, feel free to join us on Sundays! We'd love to see you in church!!
